Frequently Asked Questions
The RCD330 is an original car radio made by Volkswagen, offering modern features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These units were only created for the Chinese / Eastern European markets, and were never manufactured for UK cars despite them being superior to the head-units of the same era (2010-2017).
Luckily, all the wiring is identical, and we are able to export these and supply them for the UK market and have much better features for an affordable price.
The RCD330 is mostly plug-and-play for compatible Volkswagen models, but some vehicles may require additional wiring or adapters.
2009 or older vehicles require the CANBUS simulator cable, while 2016+ vehicles require the MQB-PQ adapter.
Please double check with us if unsure.
All our RCD330 head units that we sell are manufactured by VW original factory.
However, they are considered 'unregistered' and do not come with VW stickers or branding.
As a UK business, we are legally required to remove all VW logos and stickers before sale. Additionally, we are not permitted to export VW-branded head units because Chinese customs regulations prohibit the export of products with logos. This is a common practice when exporting from China, and you may notice that Chinese sellers often blur logos for this reason.
The quality and build remains the same standard from VW, with a hassle-free 1-year warranty, and a lifetime of support.
RCD340G is synonymous to RCD330 meaning it is the same exact unit, the name differs due to region of production. You can confirm this online. If you search rcd330.com, a reputable RCD330 seller, you'll see that they refer to these on their site as 'RCD330 PLUS | RCD340G'.
Volkswagen never had an official name to the units, but instead had a vague name such as Discover pro media. When they started getting sold outside of VW cars, they were given names for ease of sale, hence the name 'RCD330' or 'RCD340G'.
Eastern Europe, China, South America, all produce these units and have different names of the identical unit.
This is quite an uncommon issue, however it does happen on certain car models.
The good news, is that there is a very simple solution to this.
All you need to do is download the file below and install the firmware 5522:
https://mega.nz/file/jLZnUQKa#y3I3wJKTdFIUQCWDODWfB8Fv7kIgRYD4JILmY5D_PCQ
How to upgrade firmware:
1. Download file and put it on to a USB stick
2. Plug into the head unit, turn on and hold the "setup" button for 5 seconds
3. Select software update and pick the file on the USB
4. Wait until the progress bar of the update reaches 100%.
5. Head unit will reboot. Done
This should sort it out and has been successful for everyone with this issue so far!
Unfortunately, no.
We do not recommend ever updating your firmware unless you have a particular issue.
Firmware updates are not meant to introduce any new features, they are simply made to solve issues that some cars may experience.
As the RCD330 supports many models over a long period of time (2005-2021), some particular models may encounter certain bugs which is when we would recommend a firmware update.
This may sometimes be reverting to an older firmware which can solve the issue.
If ever in doubt, just drop us a message and we'll get back to you the same day.
RCD330 is compatible with both Dynaudio and Fender.
In rare occasions, you may need to disconnect and reconnect the battery after 5 minutes. This allows the head unit and speakers to recognise each other.
Steering wheel controls will work out the box plug and play.
It won't require any coding or modification.
However, if you have an older car pre 2009, you'll need a CANBUS Simulator Adapter to get the buttons to work and also to prevent any battery drainage.
IF your car model is 2009 or below, you may require a Canbus Simulator Cable.
IF your car model is 2016 or above, you may require a MQB-PQ cable.
Otherwise, you won't need any extra cables or adapters as we include the aerial fakra adapter free of charge.
You'll require the tools that we provide in our fitting kits to install
In rare occasions, 1 in 100, you may have a CANBUS gateway that is incompatible with the cable. This is usually the case with some Japanese imported cars that may have a rare CANBUS gateway variant.
If this does happen, and the battery drains, you'll need to upgrade your CANBUS Gateway to a 2011+.
